One Item, Five Fashionable Ways: Five Coolibar Cardigan Outfits

Cardigan OutfitsFor this week’s One Item, Five Fashionable Ways, sun protection clothing company Coolibar asked me if I was interested in featuring one of their pieces for this post.  The choice was mine as to which item I would showcase and I instantly picked their Vera Coastal Wrap.  I own this cardigan and love it because it is not just easy and figure flattering, but it is soft, SO soft, in their modal/spandex Suntect fabric.  I’m not kidding when I say it may be the softest, most comfortable fabric I have ever had on my body.

Cardigans are no-brainer pieces that every wardrobe should have as functional outfit finishers.  On a cool night they give you warmth.  Feel shy showing your arms, they offer shy arms security and for a professional-work environment, they replace a jacket.

To get the most out of a cardigan, I like to make sure I have an ample supply of neutral colored ones which is why I chose to style the Vera Wrap Cardigan in Coolibar’s taupe shade– a versatile layering piece in a versatile color.  Check out the five ways I style this cardigan for some outfit inspiration and tips on how to incorporate a cardigan into your wardrobe

Five Coolibar Cardigan Outfits

When an outfit is based entirely in neutrals, like this cardigan look with khaki pants by Vince Camuto and a boat neck top by Modcloth, you have free range to bring in pops in any colors you like.  Because it’s so trendy and popular at the moment, and because these colors go so well with taupe, I decided to go with pink and tangerine and chose these two-tone Sperry ballerinas and necklace by Stella & Dot.  To complete the look, and for some sunny brightness, I chose an orange Fossil handbag and flowery studs also from Stella & Dot.

If you’re are going to buy and wear colored casual pants this fall, investing in a neutral colored cardigan is a great idea as it will work with all of the colored bottoms you purchase.  Here I chose to pair Coolibar’s cardigan with an eggplant pair of Boden skinny pants and layered an Anthropologie printed tank underneath.  The look is finished with a versatile pair of grey rhinestone ballerinas by Sperry, a purple pair of statement earrings by Blu Bijoux and, for a third punch of color, a grey and yellow handbag from R+J Handbags to make the whole look casually colorblocked for fall.

To bring your summer tanks into fall, a cardigan is a great choice.  Plus, remember, all Coolibar clothing offers 50+ UVA and UVB sun protection.  With their Vera Coastal Wrap you can give yourself some coverage while still wearing a flimsier top, like this one by Zara.  Once Labor Day arrives, don’t assume that you don’t need sun protection.  The sun is still shining and you should still be thinking about shielding yourself from the rays of the sun when necessary.

This cardigan works well with a pair of jeans, like this boyfriend style by Levi’s.  Pop the look with a bright shoe, like coral wedges by Seychelles, to pull in the colors of the print, along with Furla’s navy handbag and Privileged Gold coral earrings.

A cardigan is a great way to bring a summer dress into fall or to layer some warmth at the office.  This flattering print dress by Eliza J. has tones of the taupe right in the print, along with coral.  Wanting to maximize all the items used in this post, I chose the same coral wedges and earrings from the previous look.  The last component is an off white handbag by Melie Bianco.

This cardigan is easy with a pair of camel pants, like these cotton trousers from Ann Taylor.  I layered Modcloth’s pink top underneath and used the handbag and shoes from previous looks in this outfit as well.  The outfit is finished with a Trina Turk disc necklace, Michael Kors studs and Cole Haan skinny metallic belt.

    Wonderful versatile mix of looks!!

  • heartathome

I’d wear mine over a summer dress for autumn. And I’d definitely wear it with boyfriend jeans, a tee and converse shoes.

  • Brianne

I would style this with leggings for an easy around the house look. Put together and comfy!

    • Oh it’s comfy alright! I can’t believe how unbelievably soft it is! Plus, sun protection as well!

  • Michele

I would style this with my skinny jeans. Love this cardigan!

    • It is SOOOOOO soft. I make people touch me when I wear it! Good luck with the contest!!!

  • Terra

I would wear the Vera Coastal Wrap cardigan with a sundress and flip flops on a casual day or skinny jeans and boots for a night out or with navy dress pants and crisp white shirt for work. My last cardigan like this ripped out on me and I have been looking for a replacement. LOVE IT!

  • Renee

I would wear it over my new leopard print tank (yes! and I love it!) and my new olive colored jeans. Autumn can’t get here fast enough! I think the orange necklace would be a fun addition as well.
Thanks for the great ideas, Bridgette!

  • Martha

I would wear this with everything! I’m a jeans and tee girl, but I love the way you dressed up your outfits with cute shoes and accessories! I need to get better at accessorizing- you have me some fab examples! The AZ sun is relentless in the fall and winter, so this sounds like a perfect piece to stay sun protected and cool, but look seasonally appropriate!

    • Thanks Martha! Nothing wrong with being a jeans & t-shirt girl, especially when you can add some easy accessories to elevate it! Most great outfits are based in basic pieces!

I think I would wear this

  • Mgr727

I think I would wear this with EVERYTHING! Fall weather in the DC Metro Area can be so unpredictable – one day is hot and muggy and the next has a high of 65. This cardigan would work so well for me since it’s lightweight too and it will work with chilly mornings and evenings. I think it would also be a cute way to dress up jeans on casual Friday or wear it with a pair of slacks to go out to brunch with my husband. Just love this!

  • Dottie

In South Carolina where it’s still warm and sunny, this would help me transition into Autumn while offering sun protection which is so important here. I would choose the fig colored Vera wrap (purple) and wear it with a creamy tan tank underneath, teal jeans and leopard belt. I’d finish it off with wedge pumps in the same purple family as the fig cardigan. Presto!

  • Tonya

I’d go with the casual jeans look.

  • Katie

I have similarly styled cardigans (that aren’t soft) that I like to wear with a brightly patterned shell and black crops with some fun shoes. I’m sure I would wear this the same way except more often. ‘Cause you had me at soft!

  • Debbie Roes

I love these types of cardigans! Although I already have a few of them, I don’t have one in the beautiful turquoise and purple colors shown. Also, mine do not have SPF and I need it since I’m almost as fair-skinned as you are, Bridgette.

I realized after seeing the lovely outfits you posted, that I am not imaginative enough with how I wear my open cardigans. I always wear them with jeans and pants outfits! So I would take a cue from you and wear my new Coolibar cardigan with a dress or skirt outfit! Surely, that would freshen up my look a bit!

I love these “one item five ways” posts. Your blog is excellent and always on the top of my must read list! I love how you mix things up with so many different kinds of posts. If there was an award for top style blogger, I’d nominate you for sure!

    • I’m glad I gave you some new ideas! I just got the taupe color and love the fig shade, I have that one too! I really appreciate your kind words about my blog! It would be an honor to be nominated! 😉

  • Diane Wyatt

I’d definitely wear this over jeans & black slacks and definitely over a dress! It would be a great addition to my travel wardrobe ~ which needs an update!

  • Sonnya Varenhorst

I love how you can replace a work jacket with this and still look professional. Sounds comfy!
